Lately, I’ve been suffering from writer’s block. Each time I’ve sat in front of my laptop eager to write a post and to finally finish my manuscript, I’ve been blocked by what to say. I prayed about it, slept on it, and waited anxiously hoping that inspiration would hit me soon once again. Yet, 3 days had passed and still no words came to mind.
It wasn’t until this morning, while meditating in prayer, that I realized I was to blame for my own blockage. Scripture says in Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
God’s always been there to give me the words to write; however, I’ve allowed the stressful problems in my life, toppled with other things like television and Instagram, to distract me from my writings. As a result, I had developed writer’s block.
But that’s just like life isn’t it?
We as human beings get so wrapped up into the troubles in our lives and the problems of the world that we tend to become easily distracted. We choose to utilize other things like television and social media to distract us from our daily problems instead of focusing on the only person who can help us. God is right there always waiting for us to turn to Him, yet we instead turn to Instagram to lift our spirits. We’ll spend hours scrolling through other people’s lives, inspirational quotes and funny memes; yet many won’t spend an ounce of time scrolling through the Bible.
Try as you might, but distractions can’t help your problems; only Jesus can. He’s the only distraction we ever need to turn to. When times get rough, when all the money is gone and bills are due, when in conflict with another person(s), God is all we need to get by. Sometimes, we just have to remind ourselves of that.
So my prayer for today is simple: I pray that the distractions never pull us away from God’s eyes. I pray that we continue on the path we’re chosen to walk, holding tightly to faith and knowing that Christ is all we need to get by. I pray that we become stronger in our daily battles by following the Lord without falling victim to the wrong distractions. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
Sincerely with love,
