Everything I do isn’t always for the glory of God. Try as I might, there are times when I fall short. I’m not perfect; although I find myself striving for perfection. I know it’s unattainable but there’s something inside of me that is determined to obtain perfection (charge it to the Libra in me LOL).
Still, there’s no living thing greater nor more perfect than Jesus Christ! Yet sometimes I choose to do whatever I want to do instead of what God wants me to do. He is the instructor, we are His students.
Just as school teachers / professors give students assignments expecting them to get it done, God gives us assignments to complete. Yet many times, just like students in a class, we put off doing the work until a later time. We make excuses and allow things to distract us from getting the work done.
I know the assignment I was given, yet I fail at getting it done in a timely manner. I know what I must do and should do everyday, but I allow things, people, the stressors of life to distract me. Then before you know it, the time has passed, the work isn’t done and I’m left going through the emotional roller coaster of disappointment, anxiety and shame. All because I didn’t do what the Teacher instructed me to do. I did not follow the rules.
The Bible teaches us in Jeremiah 1:5 NLT, ““I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.””
That passage says to me that God knew all of my rights, wrongs, flubs, laziness and mistakes that I’d commit before he even created me. He knew who I was from my mother’s womb. If you think about it, that’s a very, strong and powerful thing.
So with that in mind, I know I shouldn’t feel defeated for failing to complete my assignment. He already knew I would fall short! That’s why He sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. In addition to that, His grace and mercy allows me another minute/hour/day to get the work done.
My prayer for today is that of strength. Father, may you give us the strength to fight the battles knocking at our door each and every day. May you give us the strength we need to know that everything will be alright. May we have the courage to face our fears and focus on following your calling. May we always give you all the praise, honor and glory. Eliminate our selfishness and guide our minds to focus solely on you. In your son Jesus Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
Sincerely with love,
