As I’ve been teaching all week, life is about choices. You can choose the life you want to live or not. Although your path is already set for you, it’s up to you to choose to follow it or not. I choose to be an obedient servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, obeying the Lord isn’t easy. I fall flat of following his call of instructions many times. But, it’s our ability to get back up, repent and try again that counts.
Jesus died for our sins; so it’s up to us to choose him every time. It’s up to us to read the word and follow his commandments. No matter how difficult we think it is, it’s important that we choose to make the proper decisions for our lives.
Here let me tell you a story…
““Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. “At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’ “All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’ “But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’ “But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’ “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.” Matthew 25:1-13 NLT
The moral of this story: prepare now and do what you must to live a righteous life worthy of the Lord’s kingdom. Tomorrow is not promised to no one. If you want to have a seat at the table, if you want to be called into the party, you must take up your calling and follow his teachings. Otherwise, when the time comes for the sky to crack and Jesus to call his children home, you will be left out in the cold world begging to be let in.
I don’t know about you but what sorrow awaits those who hear God’s word and do nothing about it. He calls us all to listen and follow him. Salvation is freely given but you must decide if it’s what you really want. Do you want to enjoy this world and receive its fruits but your soul be damned to hell?
Reflect on your priorities as I say this prayer:
Lord, I come to you today thanking you for your blessings and asking that you give those who are hard at hearing a clearer wake up call. Shine bright on them and show them that you are God. Forgive anyone of their sins for they may not know what they do. May those who have hardened hearts to your ways be shown compassion, guidance and wisdom. May you pick them up from where they’ve fallen and may you guide them back to you. We all fall short, we all fall down but I pray that you continue to have mercy on us. Please Lord, don’t turn your back to us. Just as you grant us another day, I ask that you may gift us with another chance to get it right. I pray all these things in your Precious son Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.
May the Lord be with you today as you journey on.
Sincerely and always with love,
